Artist's Comments

I'm really enjoying doing this kind of art. For some reason my brain gets space, lighting, and texture more when I'm doing photo manip than if I were to paint it. For whatever weird reason, I also have waaayyyy more patience. I'm okay with how this one turned out, but now that I'm done of COURSE I see things I want to tweak!
This is about eighty layers, and it took me around twelve hours. I did a lot of painting over things in this; the face is completely painted by hand, and I just used a reference for the stomach, which makes me happy to say! I had a lot of fun, anyway. :)

Alioth, getting ready to go to the beach. I'm really pleased with her face, because I've finally gotten to draw her exactly as I see her in my head! I'm going to upload a 100% of her face, because I'm very happy I finally got to do some really strong face work and happily age her a bit to where she should be.

Also, yes, she has the figure of a black Dolly Parton. You'd probably have larger breasts and an ever expanding ass if your annoying husband ran you ragged with TWELVE kids. :O But don't think that because she looks bimbo-ish that she is - she's not at all. If you think her looks can kill, you should see what she can do with a knife.

I categorized this as mixed media instead of photo because I painted over top of almost everything by the time this was done... and I did a lot in the character of just referencing and hand painting new shapes... So, it's part digital paint and part photomanip. :)

Thanks! :) I appreciate it!

Yeah, I always felt annoyed at people's reaction to Dolly Parton. They actually act like she's stupid or something because she happens to have a huge rack. Personally, I don't think having huge breasts = less intelligence. If you think about it, people reacting to women with large breasts that way is more like a reaction to femininity itself. That's like girls with small breasts automatically = tomboys? :? I like to give my characters really diverse looks and I'm not that interested in fitting a stereotype. :P

So, when I made Alioth, I had a sort of wicked enjoyment in her being petite and busty, but smarter and more wicked with weapons and words than any of the men around her.

Thanks! I had something like sixteen layers... before I lost the original layered, hi-res image. Curse you, photoshop!

:lmao: Go figure!
Yeah, the other thing I'd love to fix is the lack of African American population on devart. :( My adoptive-aunt and cousins are black, so it's very weird to be so surrounded by so little diversity on such a huge site! I think watching MTV has also led me to frustration when it comes to black women. I'd love to see them portrayed better in art and media. I really enjoy having a wide range of characters to work with, but I have a special soft spot for creating very intelligent black women. Why are they so overlooked by people in white culture? :? A woman fully clothed and interested in talking about history or politics is a million times sexier than a dense expression and short-shorts, no matter the race, damn it people! :(

Yeah, that's my ramble of the day.

Nice ramble!! glad you let off some steam there!!

I think there are so many minorities overlooked...not just race, but age, size...whether you fit into the "beautiful people" bracket or not seems to be a guide as to how popular you will be.

THAT is my bugbear...now,I'm intelligent, I can hold a coherent conversation with most people...I have a great sense of humour...but I don't fit into the "beautiful people" category...so I'm overlooked on so many levels for so many things.

right...rant over for me too!

I totally agree! I think that is one of the few reasons I ever got into Manson music, of all the damn things. I heard his song "Beautiful People" and the lyrics made a light bulb go on about the exact term to use for it.

The funny thing - I've done airbrushing for magazines. Our society's idea of beauty is RIDICULOUSLY FALSE! Hell, I've gotten models for pretty good magazines who went to their shoot with acne, seriously. It's photoshopped out. Breasts are enlarged, sometimes by multiple cups. (Skinny girls =/= "nice" boobs by media standards, so they must be "corrected" *snort*)

Check this out for an example: [link]

Hey, I've seen pictures of you. You look, you know, NORMAL! :O Like you'd expect people to look! Hell, I tend to figure when people look normal (and what makes us more is some really beautiful features, such as one particular feature that stands out like beautiful eyes, or a sudden lovely little dimple, etc.), it's the normal ones who tend to act a little less... like a pain in the ass. I've dated a few uber-pretty, "I must be like soooooooo skinny oh mah gawd my make up isn't like... not like... perfect!" types. All it ever did was completely chase me away from assuming that pretty equals enjoyable. I've met some gorgeous women who had gorgeous personalities and gorgeous minds too, don't get me wrong! However, too many young women are being persuaded that they should focus more on looks than developing their own identity. :( Women need role models like you and other women of independent thought and talent so show them that you don't have to cake on makeup and puke after meals to be lovely.

Geez, I thought I was done ranting!
